Ketogenic (Keto) Diet VS Balanced Diet
I watched this podcast this morning — Insulin Doctor: This Is The First Sign Of Dementia! The Shocking Link Between Keto & Brain Decline! from The Diary Of A CEO. As always, it’s a long podcast, but definitely worth watching.
Introduced by Mete, Dr. Eric Berg promotes the Keto Diet. So Keto isn’t new to me — but eating only sardines for 3 to 5 consecutive days is definitely new. Will I try it? Yes, absolutely! But since my fridge and cabinets are still full, I’ll start after my next grocery run. I’ve already added 10 tins of sardines to my
Since I have psoriasis, Chinese doctors always say “beef and shellfish” are “poison” for the skin. Does it make my skin worse? I don’t notice any difference when I cook them myself. But when I eat out, restaurants use a lot of salt, and that’s when my skin starts to flare up — especially after beef or shellfish. And once my skin flares, my mood drops, and my sleep suffers. So I rarely eat out now, except when I’m back in HK or traveling in China.
Before moving here, I was already following what I later learned was the 16/8 diet — even though I didn’t know the concept or the name at the time. My breakfast was usually cacao milk or cacao soy milk with my supplements, I skipped lunch, and dinner was my main meal of the day. I’ve kept this habit until today. During the day, I drank lemon water. Then one day Mete told me about cloves — he meant sucking on them for better breath after eating garlic (for pain relief). But I misunderstood and thought cloves *replace* garlic for pain relief. Surprisingly, that misunderstanding turned out great. Cloves are rich in antioxidants, especially eugenol, which has antimicrobial, anesthetic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Since then, I always stick 4–6 cloves into half a lemon and refill with warm or hot water throughout the day. That became my “lunch” and my drink. My back pain disappeared after I started this lemon–clove drink. I often add 2 bay leaves as well. Bay leaves also contain eugenol, though less than cloves. Whenever someone tells me they have pain, I always encourage them to try this drink — it saves a lot of unnecessary doctor visits.
So, is my diet considered a balanced diet? I think so. Keto isn’t a bad direction, but I prefer to focus on it only when I’m sick. Otherwise, I still eat pasta and bananas. In my opinion, when we’re sick, it means some virus, bacteria, or disease is fighting with our body. To recover, we need to stop feeding them. Starch and sugar are the culprits. When viruses or bad cells have no food, they die. I’m not a doctor — just a theory I believe in. Middle-aged me has tried many things. But I wouldn’t recommend strict diets to teenagers or young healthy people. Enjoying food is one of the biggest joys in life. Limiting yourself too early makes life less interesting.
