Thunder Morning, Missing Cross, and a New Fat Cat
Yesterday morning I woke up to consecutive bursts of thunder and lightning. It was the first time I had ever witnessed such intense, numerous strikes here on this island. The sky was so dark it felt like it might collapse, and the ground trembled with every rumble. I was still half-asleep, but I had to climb up to the roof to check the skylight, which had been leaking—though thankfully not as badly as before.
The skylight itself was fine. It was just too much rainwater pooling on top of the trap. After clearing the stagnant water, I climbed back down to let Ginger inside. I know she isn’t afraid of water, but with weather like that, it was better for her to stay indoors. And the good news is that Ginger finally used the litter box. Some of her poo flipped out when she jumped out, but still—progress.
What worries me most are the kittens, especially Cross. I miss Cross so much. I’ve tried everything—bribing Ginger with extra food, walking with her more often, brushing her until she falls asleep—but she still hasn’t brought Cross or Robyne back to me. The nonstop heavy rain only made me worry about them more.
In the last three years living here, stray cats were never much of a problem. Apart from Maomao and her kittens, I only saw two or three others. Most of the strays were dogs. I don’t see Leeloo or Lilu anymore. But recently, a new big fat cat appeared—he resembles Lilu, but much larger. He’s so round he can’t squeeze through the front gate; he has to jump over the boundary wall through the fencing to get inside. I’m going to name him Garfield (assuming he’s a male). Garfield eats almost everything Ginger refuses. Ginger is getting picky now. I have no intention of keeping Garfield, but I still feel a bit guilty when I hide the food after Ginger stops eating.
