When Ginger Took the Babies Away
On the night of the 22nd, I told Mete, “Finally I can have a good night’s sleep! They all left the yard after dinner.” But I never meant that I didn’t want to see Cross again. Maybe this is my punishment. For three consecutive nights, I stopped Robyne from coming into the house after dinner, and then Ginger decided to take them away.
I know they are still nearby, just not in Aster’s yard anymore. The workers are paving the yard and clearing all the debris. I tried walking around and talking to Ginger, hoping she might bring them back to my yard. But I guess her decision is final. And how do I know Cross and Robyne are still close? Because sometimes when Ginger returns, her teats are wet. That means she is still nursing them. They’re about two months old now, and the fur around her teats has already grown back. I’m not sure how much milk she can still produce, or whether it’s enough for both kittens. I miss them so much. I wish I could hold Cross in my arms again.
Last Saturday, I went to buy food for Ginger and noticed the supermarket was selling cat toys. I picked one — a soft plastic stick with two feathers at the end and two bells in the middle. Little did I know Ginger is afraid of feathers. As soon as I pointed the toy at her, she ran away. When she came back, I tried again, this time with the door closed. She was so frightened she hid under the sofa.
I Googled why cats might be afraid of feathers. Instead of giving reasons, it only showed solutions. I didn’t want to take any risks, so I put the toy away. I remember June and Timmy loved feather toys, but the colors were different. The one I bought this time is white. I wonder if the color — maybe pink or something else — would make a difference.
