Losing the Cats

Not sure if it was because I stopped letting Robyne inside the house, but Ginger took her babies next door after dinner for the last two nights. Last night she only came back once, and she didn’t return for her late-night snack. This morning she wasn’t here for breakfast either.

I was so worried. I went out to look for her and the kittens, calling their names, but there was no response. My neighbour had locked their gate yesterday, so I couldn’t get in to check if the kittens were stuck somewhere at the back.

I kept the radio volume low so I could hear if they cried for help. But time passed, and there was still no sign of Ginger or her voice. I became so agitated that the only thing left to do was pray. I asked God to protect Ginger and her babies. And it worked. My prayer was answered. I heard a faint sound from Ginger. I rushed outside again and saw Christophe by his gate, so I asked if he had seen my cats. He said that’s why he doesn’t like keeping cats — they wander, and their whereabouts can’t be controlled. But I disagreed. Ginger is special, and she’s very attached to me. I don’t believe she would run away.

Then I heard her again. I called for her, and somehow she appeared in my yard. I don’t know how she came from the back, but I was relieved she returned. The kittens, however, were not with her.

At dinner time, I went out to look again. I heard another faint cry — maybe Cross or Robyne — but only once or twice. Then silence. I’m still very worried. I hope the workers next door come early tomorrow so I can check if the kittens are stuck there.

Ginger came back with a swollen area near one of her teats. I’m not sure if she was stung by a hornet or something else. I just hope she isn’t sick.

Being a mama is not easy at all. The constant worry, the fear of losing them, the helplessness — it all builds up. Stress like this can easily trigger a psoriasis flare, and I can already feel the tension rising under my skin. I just hope both kittens are safe. I’ll keep praying. Maybe there will be another small miracle.
