Twins
In my generation, having twins could mean disaster for some parents, because raising a child is never cheap — not to mention the time and energy involved.
I was born 25 minutes after my “evil” sister. Maybe I was the evil one (I gave my mom too much pain), but then I turned into an angel.
My sister wasn’t that evil when we were small. My mom fought very hard for her, so we went to the same primary school. That year, there were eight pairs of twins in our school, all in the same academic year. The teachers were excited about all of us. I’m not sure if it had anything to do with the water in that region of Hong Kong. My sister and I were inseparable until we went to secondary school.
Our personalities changed once we attended different secondary schools. Comparing Cross and Robyne, their characters have been different since the day they were born. Cross is sweet, and he trusted me on the second day I saw him again. Robyne is tough and stubborn. She never trusted me. I read that kittens from the same litter can have different fathers. I can’t help thinking about that. I don’t mean Ginger is promiscuous — it’s just nature.
Cross and Robyne are seven weeks old now. When you look into their eyes, you can immediately sense something different about Robyne. I can’t find the right words for it. Innocent is probably the best way to describe Cross. But Robyne gives me a slightly “evilish” feeling. She is very pretty, but looking into her eyes reminds me of my evil sister. And I still remember the night I grabbed her — the way she screamed made me uncomfortable even now. That look, and those eyes, still haunt me a little.
Twins in humans and twins in felines are very different. Human twins usually share the same parents and environment, so their differences come from personality, experience, and how they grow. But in cats, a single litter can have multiple fathers. That means kittens born minutes apart can have completely different genetics, instincts, and temperaments. It’s normal for one kitten to be gentle and trusting while another is cautious or fierce. Their “twin” bond is more about sharing a womb, not necessarily sharing the same nature.
