831 — A Strange Day of Memories and Missing Things
831 has never been a pleasant date in many people’s memories. Princess Diana passed away in a car crash on this day, and a few years ago several people reportedly disappeared around this time. I don’t have proof of that part — only that someone I knew suddenly became unreachable and never resurfaced.
Today, however, the weather is finally calmer after several stormy days. Thanks to Odile’s help, I managed to bring Ginger and Cross to see Dr. Umika. Ginger’s coughing is caused by inflammation, so she received two injections and some antibiotics for home treatment. Then it was Cross’s turn — he has an infection. Dr. Umika said it’s unlikely that Cross is allergic to sardines. More likely he got scratched somewhere, which triggered a chain reaction that led to infection. It will take around two months to heal. I hope he recovers before I leave for HK. The good news is Cross can enjoy sardines again 😋
Yesterday I climbed onto the roof to check for cyclone damage. I didn’t see any, but something strange happened — I couldn’t find the “tray” of rusted nails. The tray was actually a broken piece of concrete block that I used to weigh down the tarp. The tarp is still there, but the block and all the nails are gone. I searched the yard and found nothing. I checked the rooftop again — still nothing. If the wind blew away a heavy broken block and a pile of rusted nails, then this cyclone was truly super strong. I hope we won’t face another one like this, at least not this year.
