Warm Bodies in Winter: Ginger, Cross & Our Shared Anniversary
07 July marks my company’s 27th anniversary. Since Ginger was born in July, I decided her birthday would be on the 7th as well. We celebrated with chicken thigh and hake, though I quickly realised Ginger isn’t particularly fond of either. Cross, on the other hand, absolutely loves chicken. I didn’t cook rice that night, so in the end Ginger had her usual wet tin food. Cross finished all the chicken but left some hake behind. I also gave them a bit of egg, and it’s clear they prefer the yolk over the white.
I almost never celebrate my company anniversary, but this year felt different because of Ginger and Cross. I used to think my company was my baby. Now Ginger and Cross are my real babies.
It’s winter here, and the temperature drops quickly after dark. It’s incredibly comforting to have Cross curled in my arms when I need a little extra warmth. Ginger doesn’t enjoy being held, and she’s quite heavy now—too heavy to rest on my chest for long.
